Śrīla Śrīdhara Mahārāja talks about Viṣṇupriya’s Deity of Mahāprabhu and how the worship had to go underground due to protests from the local brāhmaṇa community that they were worshipping an ordinary man as God. Totarāma Dāsa Bābājī had a debate with local Śakta paṇḍitas establishing Mahāprabhu as God Himself. He proved this by quotations from the scriptures and also that the yuga-dharma is nama-saṅkīrtana.
